This last weekend was the rescheduled event for Bark For Life in Sioux Falls at Spencer Dog Park. It was suppose to take place June 8th, but Mother Nature had other plans. This Saturday was a nice day, but it was a bit windy outside. Other than that, it was a fun experience to be able to meet people and their furry friends. They had a variety of contests for the dogs and then after that they did their walks. Once that was done I had some people come to the booth and say hi. It was a good experience for me and hopefully next year the weather will hold up and more people will come. It’s for a good cause!

Why do dogs chase their tails? Experts believe the reason is because they are bored. There’s only so much sleeping and chewing on toys a dog can do in a day. Most of us owners will watch and laugh as the dog goes around and around, etc. Dogs crave attention so laughing at the dog will likely have him keep doing it. Is this something to be worried about? Well, yes and no. If the dog is under one year and doesn’t chase its tail a lot than no it’s nothing to be worried about. If the dog is older then it might be something to watch. If he catches his tail and is biting on it hard he may cause damage to where the tail might have to be amputated. Also another thing to check is for fleas or rash. Experts say that you should not reward a dog for chasing its tail, it could prolong the tail chasing. Some ways to prevent tail chasing is to play more with your dog and tire him out and also give your dog more toys to chew on, like bones for instance will keep them busy.
